Battlefield History: The M2A2 Bradley

The M2 Bradley was developed to do what the old M113 couldn't: keep pace with the M1 Abrams main battle tank while providing devastating firepower.

• The "Big Five": The Bradley is part of the legendary "Big Five" weapon systems that modernized the US Army in the 1980s.

   

• The A2 Evolution: The M2A2 variant was introduced in 1988 following lessons learned in survivability. It featured significantly improved "High Hardness Steel" appliqué armor, making it much tougher than the original aluminum-hulled version.

   

• Tank Killer: While designed to carry a squad of 6-7 infantrymen, the Bradley became a legend in Operation Desert Storm, where it actually recorded more Iraqi armored vehicle kills than the M1 Abrams, thanks to its deadly TOW missile system and 25mm Bushmaster chain gun.
